| Halloween 2008 |
Halloween used to be one of my favorite days of the year. I loved decorating, loved the idea of getting dressed up, loved the smell in the air, loved my ritual of carving the pumpkin while watching Bram Stoker's Dracula and loved getting together with friends to celebrate. In fact, it was just two Halloweens ago that I hosted a costume party at my house. Around this time there is just an electricity in the air, not to mention the excitement that my birthday is just two sleeps after.

Last year, Noah was just a month and 4 days old so I was exempt from all the hubbub. I even escaped to my sister-in-law"s house where the men took the older nephews out while the women folk stayed in with the infants giving out candy.
This year is a whole different story.
I just can't get into the mood and it makes me sad.
We are invited to go to a Halloween party but would have to find a sitter. Unfortunately, I don't have a sitter. At least not one I know that would be able to put my son to sleep for the night. So that option is a no-go.
We are invited to another Halloween party where we can bring Noah but what's the point when we would have to leave just as the majority of the guest arrive. So that option is also not very appealing.
But mostly, I am just too tired.
Too tired to run around looking for a costume for myself or one for my little guy. Besides, I refuse to spend over $20 for a costume he'll only wear once. Too exhausted to even think about decorating or carving a pumpkin, never mind even buying one. And if I do go through the motions of celebrating, I will have to take down everything and put it away. Again, too tired.
At this point, the only character I want to get into is that of Sleeping Beauty because I seriously need some rest and I haven't really felt pretty in a very long time.
I am sorry if I sound negative. And if I seem that I am in a little funk, it is because I am. I am sure that this will pass, as generally, I am quite the optimistic person. I just need a little sleep, some new clothes, a hair cut and color, a little eyebrow waxing, a pedicure and perhaps some time to do any of the above.

Ok Mama, time for a get together at the pub!! When is Darren free to babysit??
ReplyDeleteChantal, I totally hear you...I often feel the hassle of finding a babysitter, getting dressed up (whether for a party or dinner out) is just too much. I'd rather be comfy at home, know that Steven is ok, and get to bed early! I think having a kid has just changed everything. Plus I also don't have a babysitter who can put Steven to bed; I can only count on this when my Mom is in town which is only once in awhile.
